Possible exchange for different partners

Standard Master program for Mathematics track

The mobility schemes have been carefully designed to align with the overall programme structure and to ensure a double-mobility experience for each student. This structure aims to enrich the academic journey by exposing students to diverse research cultures, methodologies, and facilities across partner institutions.

Through this dynamic approach, students will benefit from stimulating cultural immersion and a wide range of academic and personal exchanges, contributing significantly to their personal and professional development.

During the application process, students will be asked to rank multiple mobility schemes in order of preference. Based on these preferences and the student’s merit, the Selection Committee will assign the most appropriate mobility pathway.

All mobility tracks include a shared third semester at UMLP in Besançon, fostering a common academic experience for all participants. In the final fourth semester, students are encouraged to pursue research or internship opportunities at partner universities, research laboratories, associate institutions, or within industry. This final semester must respect the programme’s requirement of mobility across two different countries.

In the standard program, the students from different partners follow different paths as shown.

  1. First semester : Students from the University of Groningen or Wuppertal begin at their respective universities.
  2. In the second semester, they can choose to either continue their studies at their home university or study abroad at another institution.
  3. During the third semester, all students in the Master’s program come together at Université de Franche-Comté in Besançon for a shared semester.
  4. For the final semester, students who participated in an exchange during the second semester are free to choose the hosting institution for completing their Master’s thesis, while those who did not must travel to a third country to do so. Students that remain the first year in Germany have to spent their last semester in the Netherlands and vice versa.

Students from the Technical University of Ilmenau complete their first year of the Master’s program (both the first and second semesters) at their home university. In the third semester, all students in the program gather at Université de Franche-Comté in Besançon for a joint semester. During the final semester, students travel to a third country,i.e. University of Groningen to complete their Master’s thesis.

If students that spent only the first or the second semester in Groningen want a degree from Groningen to be granted, then they are required to have a cosupersivor of their master thesis from Groningen.
